In-Person Workshop – Shibori Fabric Dyeing, Albany, CA
Saturday, March 22 & Monday March 24, 2025 9am – 4 pm
Shibori is a method of dyeing fabric based on traditional Japanese resist techniques. In this fun hands-on class we’ll explore various methods including pole-wrapping, clamping, folding, twisting, and stitching to create complex and dynamic fabric. You’ll end up with beautiful and unique fabrics to add you your fabric stash. All Levels, No previous dyeing experience required. Supply list will be provided when registering. Color Runs and Color Companions (1 day class)
Bold or subtle, colorful or neutral, dyeing gradations (color runs) is one of the best ways to expand your stash with a range of colors and values. You’ll be able to dye gradations and a variety of companion colors to give you the best options for making dynamic quilts. You’ll not only learn how to dye gradations, but we’ll discuss how to determine the best companion colors to dye as well. Your friends will be totally jealous of your new hand-dyed stash.

Shibori Made Modern (2 day Class)
While shibori dyeing is an ancient technique, with colorful Procion dyes and modern “tools” such as slinkys, PVC pipes, machine stitching, and more, you’ll achieve stunning colors and patterns for your fabric, garments, and home decor items. If you prefer to stick with a more traditional look, you can do that as well—you can even get the look of indigo with the easy-to-use Procion dyes.

Extreme Ice Dyeing (2 day class)
Ice dyeing is the process of using ice and powdered dyes to create incredible colors and patterns on fabric, clothes, and home décor. The melting ice randomly spreads the dyes on the fabric, leading to fantastic and unique results each time!
If you’ve never ice-dyed, you’ll pick up the basics in a flash. If you have some experience, we’ll be going beyond the basics with stars and mandalas, working with hemostats, glitch folding, geodes, incline/slant dyeing, and more. Combine shibori and tie-dyeing with ice dyeing and the possibilities are endless.
